Industry
Invepar is a Brazilian group that operates in the transportation infrastructure segment, focusing on the management and operation of highways, urban mobility systems and airports.
Beneficiary
Road users and operators of the Invepar group
Company history
Invepar operates in the Airports, Urban Mobility and Highways segments with a portfolio of 11* concessions, six of which are controlled companies and five joint ventures. In the airports segment, the group is the majority shareholder of GRU Airport, which controls São Paulo International Airport in Guarulhos, the largest in South America in terms of passengers. In the Urban Mobility segment, Invepar is responsible for the MetrôRio concession and a shareholder in the VLT Carioca, both in Rio de Janeiro. The group also owns the company Metrôbarra S.A., which acquires and provides the rolling stock and systems used on Line 4 of MetrôRio. In 2019, the holding company had eight concessionaires managing 2,337 kilometers between expressways and highways in the Southeast, Midwest and Northeast regions.
In addition to carefully observing the Group's Code of Ethics and Conduct and the strictest national and international technical standards in their respective areas of operation, all of them are committed to the safety and comfort of their users, the quality of the service provided, and the socio-environmental well-being of the communities surrounding these concessions.
Project start
Unifying four decentralized systems into a single one, providing greater management of concessions, faster service and decision-making. These were the main objectives of the new Highway Management System (SGR), which has been in operation since the beginning of August 2019. The solution was created to optimize operational processes and improve control and management of the Invepar group's highways.
Problems encountered
One of the biggest challenges of the solution was learning and understanding the world of highways. The Cast team went into the operation of the group's four concessionaires, traveling constantly to three of them (in Belo Horizonte-MG, Rio de Janeiro-RJ and Bauru-SP) and receiving key users from each area of the client at the Araraquara-SP factory.
In addition, the time taken to develop the solution was very short. An MVP was delivered in three months and the system was in production in a year.
Solutions presented
An innovative solution was implemented using the most modern technologies on the market, bringing new experiences and challenges to the entire team.
The SGR project is a multi-concession solution (multi-companies in the group) with an innovative concept in highway management that integrates, in a standardized and centralized way, the core and back-office areas of the business, permeating the entire process chain of the business units. The solution is made up of 5 modules:
1. Service
To provide an effective (multi-channel) service to users through requests and complaints about the services provided. Enabling the monitoring of processes initiated by users, guaranteeing the consolidation of service information from concessionaires and consequently increasing the quality and speed of user service.
2. Road Operations
Centralize the management, monitoring and control of operational incidents, management of operational resources and follow-up of operational requests.
3. Gescon
Centralize the management of regulatory demands through workflow and monitoring of the regulatory processes of all highway concessions.
4. Maintenance
Carry out centralized planning of all road maintenance demands, enabling KPI management to maximize the use and performance of assets, reducing costs and making operations productive.
5. ITS
Implementation
The project involved 77 Cast group employees whose mission was to automate the processes of: Customer Service, Regulatory (Concession Contract Management), ITS (Intelligent Transportation System), Maintenance and Operations.
The solution is segregated into a micro-services platform. There are 66 micro-services built on the Microsoft .Net platform, running in Docker containers on Kubernetes and exposed through the WSO2 Api Manager gateway.
The system also has a BI module for extracting regulatory and analytical reports. This module is built on the SQL Server BI platform.
Results achieved
- Unified and centralized management
- Rapid inclusion of new business units
- Proprietary solution, minimizing dependence on integrators
- Rapid consolidation of strategic information for decision-making
- Increased operational performance by standardizing and automating processes
- Adherence to regulatory obligations
- Easy to apply improvements and new features
The project has been in production since August 2019 at the CLN, LAMSA and Via 040 dealerships
The Highway Management Solution (SGR) is an innovative and disruptive multi-concession platform, standardizing highway management processes in a single system. The big differentiators were the CAST team's engagement and synergy with Invepar, given the complexity and timeframe for implementing the solution. The CAST team worked from requirements gathering to implementation (end-to-end), where they were challenged to understand the business, propose creative solutions and go beyond conventional standards. The result was a high-tech solution that adhered to the processes, routines and best practices of highway management.
